STEP 1 - ULAANBAATAR, CITY TOUR : Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia (called UB). You will be met by your guide and driver and transferred to Dream hotel, a 2 star establishment that’s conveniently located in downtown UB within walking distance from major attractions in the city. Depending on your arrival time, your guide will accompany you around this ‘soviet-esque’ city that offers some rich cultural attractions and museums. You will first head for Gandantegchinlen, a Tibetan-style monastery with 150 monks in residence. This is one of the very few monasteries which escaped the massive destruction during the communist period in the 1930s. The monks in residence usually pray in the morning, a ceremony open to visitors. The Buddhist Centre will be also ready to answer any of your questions. You will then visit a cashmere factory, one of Mongolia’s best known exports. This will be followed by lunch in a local restaurant to work your taste buds on Mongolian cuisine. In the afternoon, you will visit the National History Museum where three floors Mongolia’s rich and glorious past await you - from pre-historical ages to the soviet era without forgetting the glories of Genghis Khan’s period of reign. You will then head for our office to collect details of your trip: the itinerary, advice and to address any doubts or questions. At 6 pm, the Tumen Ekh traditional show will provide an exposé on traditional Mongolian folk arts including folklore dances, contortionism and Khoomi - the famous overtone singing style. STEP 2 - ULAANBAATAR - KHOVD : We leave the hectic capital of Mongolia and embark on a domestic flight to Khovd. Khovd is an important city, placed on the North silk road, it was the link with with Russia and China. In 1763, the Mandchu administration build the fortress of Sagjin Cherem. This walls of 3 meters high and 2 meters wide enclose then vast city. Nowaday, Khovd shelters 18 Mongolian ethnic groups. You will visit the market and the city and the great black lake. STEP 3 - KHOVD - TSAMBAGARAV MOUNTAINS : We go to Tavan Belchir, meaning 5 pastures in Mongol. These greens pastures are situated in the North of Tsambagarav mountains. STEP 4 - TSAMBAGARAV MOUNTAINS, HIKING : From Tavan Belchir, we leave hiking to the rocky valleys of Tsambagarav National park. Visit nomadic Kazakhs and Uriankhai (ethnic groups of Mongolia living in the West of the country) families. Meet with an Kazakhs eagle hunters who will not lose the opportunity to show us its eagle. STEP 5 - TSAMBAGARAV MOUNTAINS - OLGII : Today we will drive to Olgii, The region is populated with 90 % of Moslem Kazakhs. In the depths of Mongolia, the Kazakhs knew how to protect their ancestral culture. It is here, and not in Kazakhstan, that the traditional customs as the eagle hunting or the bushkashi persist. On our way we will stop on the banks of Tolbo Lake. At Olgii we will visit the museum which will give us a lot of information about the fauna and flora, as well as Kazakh culture. STEP 6 - OLGII, EAGLE FESTIVAL : The eagle hunter of the region meets for this annual big event which symbolizes the opening season of eagle hunt and where each can show its address and participate at the competition. Preys are foxes, rabbits even small wolves. Competitions of address held all day long, as well as competition of strength: where Kazakhs rider quarrels for a sheep skin. The first one who catches it has to carry it behind a line fixed in advance while the other riders try to tear away from him. STEP 7 - OLGII, FESTIVAL - SAGSAI : By late afternoon, we follow a hunter to his home in the village of Sagsai where we spend the night. BREAKFAST IN CAMP, LUNCH ON THE WAY, DINNER AND OVERNIGHT WITH A FAMILY, IN A GER FOR GUESTS

STEP 8 - WITH THE HUNTERS : We leave going hunting for three days together with our host. By horse, we follow the eagle hunter into the surrounding mountains. Once in height, the hunter removes the mask of its eagle which scrutinizes the horizon with his piercing eyes … If he perceives a prey (rabbit, fox even a wolf), he gives a small cry to indicate to its master that he saw something; this last coward then the animal which bottom on its prey. For this ancestral hunting technique, patience is very important because the animal does not catch prey every time, but the key point of this journey is without any doubt to see this proud animal and the man united in this old practice of several hundreds years in Central Asia. STEP 9 - SAGSAI - OLGII - ULAANBAATAR : We leave our hosts in the morning to Olgii where we will embark aboard our return flight to Ulaanbaatar. Arrived in town and transfer at Hotel where you can rest. Then free afternoon in town with your guide. STEP 10 - ULAANBAATAR : Flights between Ulaanbaatar and Olgii are not everyday, this day is used in plug and can take place at the end or the beginning of the journey. It is possible we will pass this day in Altai and not in Ulaanbaatar. If we spend it at Ulaanbaatar, we shall have the possibility of continue our city tour and going to visit Bogd Khan winter palace and the natural history museum. If we have spend this day in Altai, you will take advantage then of one additional day to be defined according to the schedules of the flights with your hosts. STEP 11 - DEPARTURE : Breakfast at the hotel. Return transfer can take place at the desired time, depending on your flight time.
